Police stage anti-terrorism drill in Tehran
Police held a drill across the capital, Tehran on Saturday to increase their readiness for possible terrorist threats.
Tehran's Police Chief General Hossein Sajedinia said that different police units including disposal teams and secret forces took part in the exercise, Fars News Agency reported.
"The anti-terrorism measures and exercises will continue as long as necessary,” the commander said.
“The presence of the police's operational units across Tehran is only a preventive measure to confront any possible threat,” he said, adding the move “increases the feeling of security and calmness among people.”
Former national cyclist dies in road accident
A former member of Iran’s national under-20 cycling team died in a car accident in the western province of Lorestan, a report said on Saturday.
ISNA reported that the incident happened on Friday when a truck overrun on Oshtorinan-Borujerd road.
It added that he was practicing on his bicycle on the road because of the fact that there is no standard track cycling in Lorastan Province.  Norouzian had competed for Iran’s team for two years.
Velayati not decided about next elections
A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said on Saturday that he has not decided to join an electoral coalition for the next parliamentary elections.
Ali Akbar Velayati, however, said that several political figures and groups have contacted him for “consultations” about the upcoming polls.
He expressed hope that the country will witness a high turnout in the elections.
Both elections of parliament and Assembly of Experts will be held in Iran on February 25.
Corruption
A lawmaker on Sunday unveiled that former Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi, who is facing corruption charges, has left the country.Mohammad Ali Esfanani said that Mortazavi traveled to Karbala, Iraq, while he was banned from leaving the country over his charges, ICANA reported.
He added that it is possible that he will not come back to Iran. Mortazavi is also facing charges of financial fraud during his tenure as chairman of Social Security Organization.
